5 Tips for Planning a Destination Elopement

You may be thinking, Hannah, I'm eloping, I won't need any vendors. But what about a photographer? Or maybe a planner to help make sure things go perfectly on your wedding day? Just because you've chosen to elope, doesn't mean you don't need a little help in the planning department. After all these things happen very few times in life and deserve to be enjoyed and remembered forever! I would personally suggest reaching out to a photographer first, and asking them if they think you'll need any additional help on your big day. If you're choosing to keep things simple while planning your destination elopement, you may not need too many vendors!

Brainstorm Ideas + Choose Your Spot!

Once you've decided you want to have a destination elopement, I want you to close your eyes and imagine where your wedding takes place. Some people imagine an Oregon Coast beach elopement. Or maybe a private Glacier National Park elopement, and maybe even an intimate backyard ceremony. There is no wrong answer! I would encourage you both to choose a couple of locations, this allows you to have a backup plan. The most important thing to remember is that planning a destination elopement is for the two of you. Choose somewhere special to your relationship, or even a bucket list location.

Research the Logistics

Next while planning your destination elopement, let's dive into the logistics. This is where things can get messy, but have no fear, as a destination elopement photographer - I've got you covered! Consider travel, activities, and location. Imagine you've chosen to elope in Smokey Mountain National Park. Which airport will you fly into? Where will you stay? What activities can you do after you elope? Reach out to photographers that specialize in the area, or are destination photographers like myself to help find the perfect location for your ceremony.

Book Travel + Location Scout While Planning Your Destination Elopement

Once you've chosen where you'll have your destination elopement, let's book travel! It's important to start looking at flights early to ensure you get the best deal. Whether you're flying and renting a car, or driving and just need to book a hotel. It never hurts to look early and wait to get the best deal!! Next, let's talk about location scouting. As a photographer, I spend a ton of time location scouting, and if you have a certain location in mind you can reach out to local photographers or head to AllTrails! AllTrails does a great job of helping people find incredible locations while also giving you directions to get there.

Enjoy Your Destination Elopement + Explore!

Once you've gotten through the planning and have arrived, enjoy yourselves! The time you have before real life takes over goes by so quickly, so try and enjoy it. Don't worry about everything being perfect and try to let things happen organically. Everything will work out and you'll get to make epic memories and have incredible photos to look back on forever.
